Sassafrass doesn’t really care that she is bogarting the warm air, making the rest of us shiver now that October has finally turned down the temperature outside forcing me to turn on my heat pump.
I’ve been crocheting like a maniac though so I have plenty of new shawls to keep me warm in this cold rainy weather!
It turned out so big that it didn’t fit on the blocking mats. Ignore little Miss Supervisor. She is such a taskmaster!
I also had to say goodbye to my dear little purple Chevy Cavalier, that I have been happily tooling away in since 1998. Even though she had only 80,200 miles on her, her frame sadly had rusted out so badly underneath she wouldn’t get through inspection. I loved this car.
And hello my new 2012 Chevy Cruze. It is really weird trying to figure out how to work this thing with all her new modern gadgets. The key isn’t a key, its got buttons all over it and I can start her from inside the house if I want! And cruise control, automatic windows, the lights do their thing without me making them, I can change the radio station with the steering wheel, and all sorts of cool stuff! Would you believe it took me almost a week to figure out how to get the back door to open up from the outside for me. I’m such a noob.
I was so nervous about buying a car all by myself, but I put my big girl panties on and it turned out okay. One more thing off the To Do Checklist – and ahead of schedule no less! See, I can pretend to be a grown up when I need to – after fifty-two years I can fake it pretty good.

Congrats on the new car! I’ve forgotten where you live, but from the sounds of poor rusted Cavalier, it might be someplace cold? If so a remote start will spare you some time in the cold (just make sure to leave the heater on hi hot defrost when you get out).

oh I didn’t even think about that use of remote start! So I won’t have to run out to the car real quick in the mornings with my hair still wet to to get the defroster going! Oh joy!
And I love the color in this shawl too. The Unique Sheep is the dyer, she does such a fantastic job, I love all the yarn they sell.
Wazz, I have to say, of all your magnificent creations, this one is my favorite. So delicate, and the colors so wonderful. You are a true artiste. And concatz on braving new-car-land! I hope you will come to love your new Chevy as much as your old. I totally know what you mean about loving the old matrons. Mine is a ’91 Toyota Corolla (started rusting out in Michigan where she spent several years of her new life; we don’t do salt down here in AR so the rust has kind of just sat there) and there isn’t an automatic thing on it. I myself would have a fit w/ gadgetry.

I am sorry I have not been around for so long. I am trying to get organized so that I can keep up with my furriends. Please, please forgive me…and we luvluvluv your new car. Ummm…embarrassed to ask…but have you moved yet to AZ??
Not yet, still stuck in Pennsylvania – but luckily for me the company has postponed the closing of the office till March (and possibly may even keep a smaller one open here) so I have some more time. My house hunting trip was pretty much a failure – I may end up renting for a while rather than buying something immediately much as I hate the idea of throwing money away on rent – to give me some time to find something I actually like and can afford.
I understand. All I can say is, at 67 and 70 years old, I and my husband chose to give our home back to Chase Bank in order to have a more comfortable retirement…we have always owned for 36 years…and now I last years of life will be as renters. We are sad to not own our home; but we are also happy to be able to travel and donate more money toward animal rescue work which is our joint retirement project. We have had a great 36 years, lived mostly well, with some stretches of great hardship…but we are in our twilight years and happy to be relatively healthy so far. There’s such satisfaction in your voice when you talk about choosing it n buying it. A challenging project achieved.. and, spacecraft subsequently mastered!! [Am perfectly serious here.. the only thing I’ve ever driven was a tractor ,one year, on a farm in south of France!!]

Thanks so much for your sweet compliments. I think this is my favorite shawl so far too – I just love the color, it is such a wonderful Autumn shawl. I’m not quite “on top of things” yet, but I am feeling much better and very grateful for all the good things in my life and am trying to concentrate on those rather than the things that may not be what I want, but just are. If that makes sense 🙂
