Merlin, my Bronze-Wing Pionus, is starting to feel his oats with spring roaring in this month. Him and Bandit are enemies again, he keeps trying to get in my kitchen cupboards, and heaven forbid I leave my socks on while I’m sprawled out on the couch. He seems to think my socked foot is a female Pionus and it makes for some awkward moments.
Don’t let his innocent little face fool you. This time of the year, he’s a sex-crazed maniac. Give me patience!
Guess you can’t get birds spayed or neutered.
No, neutering/spay parrots is not normally done unless for extreme health issues.

Me would LOVES to see that! Does he ever try it with the cats?

Well I don’t really let him go to town on my toes. Generally with parrots, you try to redirect rather than encourage mating activity. I give him lots of wood to chew up rather then let him get in my cupboards, and I usually get him to play tug-of-war with my sock rather then let him, well, screw around with it. And no, when my parrots are feeling their oats, I am extra cautious when the cats are in the room so that they don’t try to attack them – parrots are quite protective!
Ha ha, love it. 🙂
Rabbitt used to create some embarassing moments too. 🙂
I used to have a cockatiel who was completely in love the crossbar top of his cage. Man that bird had stamina! Merlin makes the sweetest little sounds when he is in a romantic mood, but I generally catch him before he gets too wound up and we play Destroy A Catalog, or Shred a Popsickle Stick instead.
He’s so handsome, it’s hard to be upset with him for romancing your foot!
Pam (and Sam)
He is a stunner, I agree! But my foot is totally uninterested 😛
Merlin! Have you no shame? Answer: Of course not.
Everyone in my household is shameless. I need to emulate them more.
Shame — it’s a shame. Shouldn’t be allowed.
